Bonhoeffer's "Live Together"

What does true Christian community look like—especially when everything around you is falling apart?

In this episode of the Gospel Gumbo Podcast, we explore the life and legacy of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German pastor and theologian who chose community over comfort and resistance over silence during the rise of Nazi Germany. From his formative experience in Harlem’s Black church to the underground seminary he helped lead, Bonhoeffer modeled a life of spiritual growth through relationships. His powerful book Life Together was born from that experience.

We unpack his teachings on rhythms of community, the tension between solitude and connection, and the “wish-dream” that kills real fellowship. We also explore what life together means today—for the average Christian just trying to show up, listen well, confess honestly, and grow in the messy beauty of church life.

Whether you're married or single, introvert or extrovert, longing for friendship or drowning in people—this episode reminds us: God grows us through each other.
